Ford Recalls the Mustang for a Water Leak and Potential Light Failure

The Ford Mustang is under a recall for an issue with its body seals that could allow water intrusion and a problem with exterior lighting elements. Ford said it had received 69 warranty claims and 17 field reports related to the problem.

In affected cars, improperly sealed body seams around the windshield may allow water intrusion. The problem comes from “inconsistent robotic and manual sealer dispensing and skiving operations.” If the water reaches the body control module, it can cause problems with the side marker lights and taillights. Some lights may stay on after the car is turned off, draining the battery.

Dealers will inspect the body control module and replace it if water is detected. While this recall is a relatively easy fix, it’s just the latest in a mountain of recall actions for Ford. Just this week, the automaker recalled almost 500,000 vehicles for a brake fluid leak, and hundreds of thousands of trucks were recalled for a malfunctioning digital gauge cluster.

Ford has recalled millions of vehicles this year across dozens of actions. While it has said that it would be more proactive with recalls to solve problems more effectively, the costs are starting to pile up for the automaker, with hundreds of millions in associated expense just this year alone.
