Tesla’s Updated Model S and Model X Come With a Notable Price Increase

Tesla recently updated the Model Y and Model 3, leaving the S and X slightly behind the curve. That just changed, as the automaker announced updates to the two more expensive vehicles, and prices are climbing as a result.

All versions of the two vehicles saw $5,000 price increases, with the Model X AWD starting at $89,990 and the Plaid at $104,990. The Model S AWD now starts at $84,990, with the Plaid climbing to $99,990.

While the price increases are the most substantial and attention-grabbing changes, Tesla introduced a host of updates to the two vehicles, including a new $2,500 Frost Blue paint color. Other updates include improved range, with the Model S Long Range now offering up to 410 miles on a charge, making it Tesla’s longest-range model yet.

The company also improved the vehicles’ sound deadening, added new wheel designs, revised their suspension systems, and updated the Model S Plaid’s exterior for better aerodynamics. Additionally, the vehicles have adaptive headlights and a better front camera system.

At more than 1.7 million units sold in 2024 combined, the Model Y and Model 3 make up the bulk of Tesla sales, with the X and S only moving around 50,000 units worldwide last year. Price increases are never a welcome development, so we’ll have to wait and see how the changes impact sales of those two models.
