Grok, X/Twitter’s sometimes-racist AI chatbot, is coming to Tesla vehicles soon. CEO Elon Musk recently posted about the move, which he said could come “Next week at the latest,” following a demonstration of the technology’s latest features.
Musk showed the new-and-improved Grok’s capabilities, demonstrating improved voice conversations and higher benchmark scores than some competing systems. The updated system came after Grok yet again made inappropriate posts on X, this time with antisemitic comments. Some have clamored for Tesla to include the tech in its cars for a while, which they feel could help slow the automaker’s tumbling sales.
While we don’t know exactly what Grok could do in a Tesla vehicle, it would likely replace the existing voice control system. The more natural language processing would make it easy to get directions or book a restaurant reservation, and Grok could integrate with Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance tech.
Grok’s move to Tesla comes as the company expands its robotaxi services in Austin, Texas, and Musk noted that the automaker was awaiting regulatory approval to launch the service in the Bay Area of California. It has been an eventful week for Musk’s other businesses, too, as X CEO Linda Yaccarino recently stepped down, leaving a big hole at the top of the controversial social media network.
